BAD NEWS: THERE WILL BE NO RENEWAL OF THE 2-YEAR PERIOD OF LEGAL STAY FOR CUBANS, NICARAGUANS AND VENEZUELANS

Bad news, there will be no renewal of the 2-year period of legal stay for Cubans, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans.

President Biden's administration announced a few days ago two changes that affect two groups of immigrants, the first group are those who enter the country through the special parole program for Cubans, Nicaraguans, Venezuelans and Haitians. The government announced that immigrants who entered or are about to enter the United States through this program will not have the possibility of extending the time of stay, which is 2 years. As I explained last week, people who entered with this parole and qualify to apply for asylum or any other program, or if they are spouses or children of asylees or U.S. citizens will be able to apply for legal permanent residency.

It is obvious that this measure was taken as a political response to the criticism from Trump supporters that many more people (immigrants) are entering and the bad publicity that Haitians, who are a large group in this program, have unfairly received.

As I have already told you it is important that the people who entered through this parole and can apply for political asylum, do it as soon as possible, because they could have problems if they wait more than a year, although they could argue that they are protected by the two-year parole program, which may be an excuse, it is not the most convenient thing to do.

There is a possibility that if Vice President Harris wins the presidential election she may extend the program or approve a renewal but they cannot count on  this, it is important that those who are in this program consult with an attorney soon.

And the second group are the people who are arriving at the southern border and want to apply for political asylum, as we know last year President Biden changed the policy to restrict the opportunity to apply for asylum if the amount of immigrants crossing the border (initially) was over 2,500 people per day then they changed the rules and lowered the amount to 1500 immigrant on average during a week causing less people to have the possibility to apply for asylum when they illegally cross the border from Mexico to the United States.

There is also the CBP 1 program through which they can request an appointment through this system although many people have complained that it is complicated and that getting an appointment can take up to several months.

Also this new measure has been in response to Trump's strong criticism and his lies that 10 million people are entering lately when we know that we are talking about hundreds of thousands of people or less than ten percent of the amount he says.

Still we disagree with these new changes by the Biden administration, which obviously have been taken in agreement with candidate Harris and it is sad that because of Trump's strong anti-immigrant policy, which basically his number one argument is that criminal, criminal, pet eating immigrants are entering the country unimpeded and are ruining the country.

I wish Biden and Harris instead of making these changes wanting to show that he can be tough on immigrants too, would have better attacked Trump's lies and hate in a more positive way for immigrants, but I understand politics and since Trump's tactics are supposedly working on some people they feel they have to respond in this way.
